Welcome to the new website of the Walk In My Shoes campaign

My name is Philip Taylor, 72 years old and a polio survivor. I'm also priviledged to be considered one of the UKs top orthopaedic shoemakers. I have a reputation for solving problems, often those caused by the footwear supplied through the NHS that has gone wrong.

Why I have always campaigned for change

In 2011 I convened a conference at Leeds University to highlight how little has changed despite many reports and investigations into NHS footwear. Since then I have tried to help many of my clients find better pathways or services in order they can get the footwear they need. I see even more need for change now than ever, with contractors coming under pressure from restricted funding to supply goods and services

At that conference, two orthotists walked out of my opening speech thinking I was going to spend the next 20 minutes criticising orthotists. Had they stayed long enough they would have heard me praise the way orthotists managed to get results despite working within a failing system. That system has changed little sionce 2011.
